Best Ways To Naturally Wash Your Hair Without Shampoo

What do Adele, Robert Pattinson and Jessica Simpson have in common?

They’re all celebrities with fabulous hair who follow the ‘No Poo’ method! ‘No Poo’ stands for ‘No Shampoo’-  it is a method of cleaning your hair without using any shampoo at all.

Traditional shampoos contain a whole lot of chemicals that strip our hair of their natural oils. The Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfates (SLES) present in these shampoos are responsible for producing the lather that we associate with shampoo, but they’re also potential irritants that can worsen hair quality over time. However, shampooing has become such an integral part of our hair-care routines that it seems almost impossible to think about not using it regularly.

Is there a way out, then? But, of course! Mother Nature has blessed us with all the ingredients we need to naturally wash our hair at home without using any shampoo!

We’ve made a list of some natural ways you can wash your hair without shampoo, for hair that’s thicker, healthier, and happier with every wash!

Water

Ditching your shampoo for water may actually prove to be incredibly beneficial for your hair. Plain Water can wash away dirt, dust, and other water-soluble debris from the hair and scalp without stripping them of their oils, making it one of the best ways to go about your daily hair wash without using any shampoo! Just make sure to use lukewarm water, followed by a cold rinse— nothing too hot!

This method works best for people whose scalps are neither too greasy, nor too dry.

Baking Soda

One of the most popular natural alternatives to shampoos, baking soda has a high pH level that makes it a very effective cleanser, especially for people with greasy hair.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to some water to form a paste and apply it to your scalp, and then rinse it off with plain water. Follow it up with an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse to make your hair extra shiny!

Apple Cider Vinegar

The pH of Apple Cider Vinegar is similar to that of the scalp and thus it can help restore its natural pH balance. It can also prevent the growth of bacteria, and leave the hair looking smooth and shiny, making it an effective natural way to wash hair without shampoo. This is also why we use Apple Cider Vinegar in our hair masks and conditioners!

Dilute some of the Apple Cider Vinegar in water and rinse your hair with it, and then rinse it with plain water- all done! This method works especially well for people with dry and frizzy hair.

Lemon Juice

When life gives you lemons, turn some into an all natural hair cleanser!

The low pH level of Lemon juice makes it very suitable for the scalp, especially as it also helps to eradicate dandruff and boost scalp health. With natural astringent properties, it is also very effective at removing excessive oil and dirt from the scalp, which is why it makes for a very effective cleanser.

Squeeze a lemon into a cup of warm water, and then massage the mixture into your scalp. Rinse off and you’re all done!
